Queer Voices in the Round

Queer Voices in the Round will be on stage at The Arts Guild in Charlottetown on September 25. Showtime is 7:30 pm. Some stories are just better told through song. This all-2SLGBTQIA+ song circle brings together singer-songwriters Jack Pine (ON), Noah Malcolm (PEI), and Mattie Comeau (NB) for an intimate evening of original music, storytelling, and connection. The songwriters circle is a part of Jack Pine's Sign of the Tides solo tour, a 19-date run through New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland. The tour marks the next step in a period of creative renewal for the Ottawa/Gatineau singer-songwriter. Jack Pine and The Fire released their gritty self-titled alt-folk debut in 2011 to critical acclaim and injected a little groove with their 2017 follow up. Both records work the same seam that Jack sews between the two sides of every story and the sophomore Left To Our Own Devices record earned nominations from the Canadian Folk Music Awards and the 2019 JUNO Awards. He has since built his new Là Là Studio and continued producing music for other artists but never stopped writing. In 2025, Jack broke an extended pandemic pause by booking a solo tour through his favourite Northern Ontario and Manitoba terrains, a particularly beautiful but gruelling route for touring artists. He kept it a deliberately low pressure tour, but his goal to simply get the music flowing in his blood went better than he'd expected on every front. He took this as yet another sign and planned this ambitious eastern follow-up through uncharted territories. Taking turns "in the round," each artist shares their songs, the stories behind them, and the lived experiences that shaped them. Together, their performances blend folk, pop, Indigenous storytelling, and deeply personal songwriting.
