The UPEI Department of Music launches its 2026-2027 recital series in September with two concerts featuring faculty, alumni, and guest artists. On September 18 at 7:30 pm, the series opens with the second annual Prelude to Homecoming concert, once again showcasing the Department's new Yamaha CFX concert grand piano in the refurbished Steel Recital Hall on the UPEI campus. The concert will feature Magdalena von Eccher as a soloist and in collaboration with full-time faculty Dale Sorensen, Nicole Strum, and Sung Ha Shin-Bouey, along with part-time faculty and several Department of Music alumni. A faculty/alumni jazz combo will also be featured this year. Duo Concertante, featuring Nancy Dahn (violin) and Timothy Steeves (piano), returns to Steel Recital Hall on September 25 at 7:30 pm. Based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, the duo will present Glaze of Glory: From Confection to Connection, a virtuosic program spanning a wide range of styles, including the newly commissioned Donut Suite, written for the duo by Canadian composer Vincent Ho. Along with works by Bach and Debussy, the program will feature Beethoven's Sonata in G Major, Op. 96, his only late-period work for violin and piano.
